It’s an understatement to say that Nepali people are obsessed with Bollywood culture — and how could we not considering we practically grew up with it! Bollywood has definitely grown way larger now and serves as a dream platform for hundreds. So, the rare instances where we see Nepali actors star in Hindi movies, are to treasure for. But, while Nepali actors’ exchanges might be rare, Indian singers have been involved in the Nepali music industry for ages!

1. Lata Mangeshkar
The legendary Lata Mangeshkar has blessed the Nepali music industry too with her melodious tunes. Her contributions were mostly in old-school Nepali songs like Akashma Tirmire, and Jun Mato Ma Mero from the movie Maitighar. However, the most popular song that most Nepalis know of must be the song Bachuljeli lai with the Nepali singer Ram Krishna Dhakal. Lata Mangeshkar’s calming voice has definitely added life to all these soulful lyrics.
2. Udit Narayan Jha
Udit Narayan has earned the title of a legendary singer now and is a loved name amongst Nepali people. But, a lesser-known fact about him is that he actually started off as a Maithili and Nepali singer for Radio Nepal. Then, it was a gradual process of moving to India and achieving fame with his incredible voice. Despite gaining immense fame in India, Udit Narayan still continued to sing Nepali songs and some of his popular contributions include: Kusume Rumal, Kahile Timro Pachheurima and Banmara le banai khayo.
3. Sonu Nigam
Sonu Nigam is a popular Indian singer with classic fan favorite hindi songs like Suraj Huwa Madham and Piyu Bole. He’s a well-known figure in Indian TV shows too and he isn’t short on Nepali fans either. However, many might be unaware of the fact that Nigam has actually sung numerous Nepali songs. The most popular Nepali song from Sonu Nigam must be Ma bhaye pagal. Most 90’s kids must remember this song being stuck on their heads, probably without realizing that Sonu Nigam was the voice behind it.
4. Asha Bhosle
Asha Bhosle is a singer greatly respected by the Nepali audience, with immense contributions to the Nepali music industry. Bhosle sung more than 20 Nepali songs, most of which were instant hits, and most Nepali people still know the lyrics by heart. Aaagey aagey topaiko gola is still a get-together song that serves as a classic and other everlasting songs include Ma pyar bechidinchu, Naya naya sajau hai sansara and Gairi khet ko.
5. Mika Singh
Mika Singh is a relevant figure amongst Nepali audiences — songs like Subha hone na de are heard in every Nepali gathering ever. Mika Singh is most known for making catchy Hindi pop songs, and seems like language can’t hinder the man’s ability to make such infectious music. The song Bottle ko birko had a total ‘Mika touch’ to it and the audience received the song really well.
6. Sunidhi Chauhan
Despite being well known here in Nepal, most Nepalis don’t seem to know much of Sunidhi Chauhan’s Nepali songs. She has worked on songs like Kasto Ajib, and the song Mero akha ko gajal from the movie Mero Euta Sathi Cha. The songs surely are beautiful and would fit the Nepali music taste buds.
